Bench Rest Small Bore
Bench Rest Rifle is a discipline shot at Dudley Rifle Club on Monday & Friday nights, alongside Lightweight Sport Rifle. Opening hours are between the hours of approx 7:30 to 10:00pm
The current National Smallbore Rifle Association (NSRA) Gallery Rifle & Pistol Committee definition for the discipline "Bench Rest rifle" is summarised as follows.
Rifle Specification (General):
- Calibre:Up to .22" rimfire (smallbore) or .177" air or CO2.
- Sights: Any Sights
- Sling: A shooter may use a sling, as in prone shooting, instead of but not in addition to a rest.
- Sandbag: A sandbag may be used to provide the height, but must have a piece of material conforming to 8.16.5.2 (made of a non-pliable material, such as metal or wood) interposed between it and the fore-end. The sandbag may not provide any sideways support to the fore-end.
Rifle Specification (Bolt Action Specific):
- Overall weight: No Weight Limit within NSRA Rules
- Magazines: Rifles fitted with magazines may only be loaded with one cartridge or pellet.
Rifle Specification (Semi-Auto Specific):
- Overall weight: the overall weight, including sights and all other accessories, and including, if used, a glove, shall not exceed 4.5 kg.
- Trigger Pull: the trigger must support at least 500 g (1.1 lb) weight.
- Magazines: when used with a magazine, the rifle shall not be loaded with more than 10 cartridges or projectiles, even though the magazine may be of a larger capacity.
Course of fire
In each round, 30 shots, 10 at each of three targets, one shot per diagram, 10 minutes per card.
Targets
NSRA 2010 BM at 20yds or 2510 BM at 25yds to be outward gauged and scored as marked on the targets in accordance with NSRA rules.
Firing Position
The shooter must be seated at a table or bench (which may be of any height to suit the shooter and must in no way control the position of the shooter), the rifle must only be supported onthe rest at the fore-end (which may be of any material that supports the fore-end of the rifle without controlling the rifle's position and it must not be fixed to the table or bench). The rifle butt must be located in the shoulder and supported at the butt end by the shooter's hand and not resting on the bench or table, or any pad or other artificial support on the bench, when in the firing position, but may do sobetween shots and when re-loading.
Competitions
Currently this is the most popular shooting competition at Dudley Rifle Club. We shoot a postal league run by Hendon Rifle Club with great success.
